PLUS aims to respond to service users social care needs by providing services of the highest possible standard. To help achieve this PLUS has Training plans, which set out the core objectives and targets to be achieved. They are monitored and updated annually. Within the company Business Plan the vital role of staff training and development is recognised and PLUS is committed to achieving the training departments aims.
In line with government legislation as set out in the white paper “Valuing People” the Training Department provides training for support staff to undertake the Learning Disabilities Awards Framework (LDAF)
- PLUS is a registered training provider with the London Open College Network (LOCN) and is registered to deliver all units of the Learning Disability Awards Framework (LDAF). All new support staff are registered with the Open College Network and undergo the first 4 units (Induction/Foundation) within the 6 month probation period in line with the probation policy.
- Structured training and development is essential to the effective and efficient running of PLUS and the personal development of the individual.
- PLUS is committed to the provision of training and development of all staff to ensure that they are in possession of the knowledge and skills to perform their job to a clearly identified standard.
- Individual training and development requirements will be identified with the line manager through the process of individual formal supervision, appraisal and development of a personal development plan.
Because staff development and training is a priority, PLUS was able to attain its first Investors in People (IiP) award in 1995 and has continued to achieve the award ever since. The IiP is a nationally recognised standard of good practice in staff development.
The Training policy states:
The performance review process involves managers in assessing the attributes of their staff with a view to matching them with the organisation objectives. Development of individuals is a two-way process; managers discuss the performance of the individual and give information on available opportunities, but the onus is on individual employees to inform their manager about their aspirations and commitment to developing skills.
